I SIT

I SIT
Mark Redford

                                   I sit
and I work at being aware
    of just sitting
                                   but of course
I am hardly aware of sitting
                                   because I am thinking
so I spend more time being aware of not being aware of sitting
then I need to beware of being pre-occupied
with not being aware of sitting
and become aware of sitting again
                    even though I am
                                  then
    not
and will not be for quite a moment after of course
and in this way I will become aware
without drive or purpose
within the background boredom and purposelessness
which is the very tapestry of my life
but also the very air that I breathe

  1. The first of two poems from Mark, which I think has a rather philosophical element.

  2. Love this. It so perfectly reflects my experience of trying to meditate.

  3. The purposeless driven life endorsed by Wilde who said to do nothing is the hardest
    life of all!
