ANTS

ANTS
Larry Schug

and the ant men said to their families,
see, there is food in the kitchen
north of the border.
you wait here
and we’ll go get some food.
so the ants made a conga line,
cha cha cha,
and tried to sneak into the kitchen.
but the man who thinks he owns the kitchen
and all the food in the kitchen
took his big white thumb
and went squish, squish, squish,
trying to keep some of the ants from his food,
even though it was grown
by the low-crawling, low-paid ants
who made it across the border last year
and carried back some crumbs
south of the border
to the families waiting in the nest
who sent some more ants
to get some more food.
and so it goes with ants.
cha cha cha.

  1. I hope you like this piece from Larry Schug. He’s sent in some good poems, and this is the first. I like a good analogy.

MM has been been receiving quite a few submissions from new poets. This means that the queue for publication is growing, so sorry to poets who are having to wait a little longer for their next poem to be published, but it will be.

  2. Has some right-winger described mexicans as ants yet? I would like to hear the mental gymnastics required to get away with that.

  3. But they do, Joe, they’re carrying the weight of big white thumb’s wealth.

  4. Love it. Can’t wait to read more.

  5. ants are not our aunts, yet Larry can even make them dance!
