SKY-SCRAPER

SKY-SCRAPER
Anthony Ward

The man at the bottom aspires to the heavens
Contemplating the climb

While the guy at the top looks upon his hell
Contemplating the fall

One aspiring to live the high life
The other feeling he’s a lowlife

Both desiring to be where the other wishes he weren’t

Waving to each other
As if beckoning the other

The man below climbing until he reaches the top
Where he finds himself looking for the man at the bottom.

  1. Another well crafted, succinct poem from Anthony. This is the last of his current batch of submissions. Let’s hope he submits some more work.

  2. Circuitous reiteration of a proverbial prophetic idea of one’s sociological or psychological rise
and fall in fate, time and destiny which is the point of a rather modernist Dante way of speaking and Chaplinesque fascination as Anthony’s engagement of human social reality.

  3. Once you’ve reached the top, there’s no where to go but down. This just shows us once more, it’s not the destination, its the journey.
