ORDINARY WAR

ORDINARY WAR
Bud Smith

No idea
Just waiting in a parked car
Not at a stop light
Not near a green one either
No idea
Done joking around
Done talking nonsense
Done being serious too
Life is a series
of infinite possibilities
reduced to a few
wonderful compromises
You be cool
I’ll be cool
If we die in a combat zone
ask ourselves
was there a poem
that really needed to be written
that close to a land mine?

  1. More fine work from Bud Smith.

Read his first poem on MM, DON’T WORRY here:
    https://misfitsmiscellany.wordpress.com/2012/09/20/dont-worry/

And he’s written a great story, THE TIRE PILE:

  2. Bud knows poetry is in a time war,and he draws us in with an irony of life’s complicity with
    a back door death.

  3. Allie Marini Batts

Love the last two lines, especially!
