PROCEED WITH MY EXECUTION IF YOU PROMISE TO MAKE IT A MASSACRE

PROCEED WITH MY EXECUTION IF YOU PROMISE TO MAKE IT A MASSACRE
Sam Campbell

Let me live on an eighth note of this song.
Let me sneak into your ear while you are lectured by your insomnia dreams.

I will belly flop into your canal and make you stumble
I will careen across your brain like a newborn discovering the independence of crawling

My candle lantern eyes will flicker into every sulcus of your brain
My suicidal feet will penetrate your cortex

I will make you croon

And as I leave your mouth
I will not have the same allure as the waltz of billowing smoke
resting on the dusty shelves of sun rays
You will not try to dissect my existence

You will kill me
and resurrect me—
at will—
without knowing
how much Jesus Christ actually hates Easter

  1. A second poem from Sam…I’m not quite sure what to make of this, not exactly. I think there is some mystery as to who or what the narrator is, and I like a little mystery.

  2. Sam’s poem well executed.
