LUDDITE/WE BELONG (TWO FLASH PIECES)

LUDDITE
Allie Marini Batts

Technology is no blessing. I toss in a bed too big to sleep in alone. Facebook posts, porn that has nothing to do with love, bad spellers, a lover who ruined my life e-mailing the apology I deserved a decade ago. I yearn for speech without phones and longhand letters. The computer, an auger wrecking the typography of my past.

WE BELONG
Allie Marini Batts

Every fight threatens you’ll go back to the bottle, choosing the burning ache of its deceit over the reality of married life: petty, boring and angry sometimes, tempered by moments of tranquil unity, morning sex and falling asleep together, surrounded by pillows like clouds. Even in storms, choose me; instead of whisky, get drunk on us, after the rain passes.

  1. More good work from Allie, who manages to convey the details of intimate thought and emotion is so few words.

She also got a great piece of vivid and moving writing in the latest issue of THE WEEKENDERS MAGAZINE, which you can find here:
