AFTER THE FULL MOON
AFTER THE FULL MOON
With Semi-Historical Background
R. Gerry Fabian
On
this quiet Pennsylvania early morning
we sit and watch the mist rise
off the flowing Delaware river
not very far from where
Washington crossed.
It is just about dawn
and the birds
seem especially chirpy.
You hold my hand
in just that certain way.
We haven’t spoken
in more than an hour.
Our eyes meet with anxious smiles.
The time to go
is about three miles up river
floating in the active current
without a care in the world.
