NICKEL PLATED LOVE
NICKEL PLATED LOVE
Devlin De La Chapa
There were
five pictures
in all-
each picture
laced and disgraced
and displayed perfectly-
each picture
began and ended
within a compromising position-
each picture
exposing betrayal and lust-
each picture
screaming the death of love and trust-
his mind
was a predictable mess
his eyes
were constrained, well withered in pain
his hands
a trembling wreck
but you’d never suspect
a man enraged, not
by the straight of his face
nor by the sharp of his gaze
he was a man
on a contemplating mission
a man
with no obvious disposition
mouth over mouth
tongue wrestling tongue
bare skin against bare skin
two creatures fucking
in a sea of heavenly sin
such is the life
of a working man in demise
to provide, to please
only to have it seized
by God’s beautiful creation, and
by the Devil’s sweetest temptations
such is the life
as an open door slams
“Honey, I’m home”
and such is the life
when those very words cut deep
Yup!
he then thinks
cocking his nickel plated pistol
and downing his drink
The adulteress is home.
