orbiting her

hair towering over her
head in a great bun,
triangular eye spectacles
and a million-dollar
smile

head of the PTA,
in black and white,
flanked by official
balloons and
banners

there were
no cigarettes,
martinis
or
guns in her hand

she surpassed her
flabby
contemporaries
with her baked goods
and drunken go-go
dancing on the
cafeteria floor

Madam President
knew her own
championship
then,
but that
black
and white
photograph
is light years
away

and people decay
beyond those
very delicate,
beautiful moments
in time when
they truly
shined
