TY COBB
Derrick Keeton

I am not alright
Drunk deluded has-been disillusioned
And consumers need a reason to give
Their earnings a meaning beyond,
“Keep me occupied.”

This mock-up write up of a human being
In the mirror
Is more than seeing himself
Loathing the shelf which he sets upon.
“Am I a pawn?”

…That age-old question…
Dead great-grandfathers on unseen battlefields
Of uncelebrated wars.
If I could have chosen my life
I would’ve been Ty Cobb

Sharpening my cleats with metal file
And killer instinct
Ready to steal home by gutting the catcher
His blood is my victory at home plate…
It’s getting late…
